Shravan Maas or Sawan is one of the sacred month according to Hindu calendar, and is a month of worship devoted to lord Shiva. This month of vibrant spirit starts on 14th July in the year 2025 and it lasts until early August. In the eyes of millions of followers both in India and other parts of the world, it is not only about fasting but about getting to a spiritual path of purifying your soul and seeking divine contentment in the arms of spirituality.

Obtaining a new calendar and viewing any Somvar Vrat, going to visit some Shiva temples or just attending some local festivities, you will have all the important dates of Shravan Maas 2025 with you, together with emotional and spiritual background to make all this activities even more significant.

Shravan Maas 2025 Calendar Dates

The following is the full list of the important fasting and festival days of Shravan Maas of 2025:

1. July 14, 2025 – First Monday of Shravan (Somvar Vrat)

The first Monday of the month is a kind of trend-setter. People will get up early in the morning, bath, wear clean clothes and go to Lord Shiva temples with offerings such as milk, belpatra, and flowers.

The Shiv Chalisa is read collectively in many families in the morning, and they finish daily at home by doing aarti. Our home is used to making sabudana khichdi and sharing it among the neighbors.

2. July 21, 2025 – Second Monday of Shravan (Somvar Vrat)

By the second Monday the devotion becomes deeper. More queues and longer chants are witnessed in temples. It also occurs in some of the devotees who present coconut and sugar in the Shivling.

My aunt in Ujjain has been performing Shravan Vrats throughout last 15 years and she goes to Mahakal temple barefooted every Monday. She considers that her faith got her through a serious condition.

3. July 22, 2025 – Pradosh Vrat (Shukla Paksha)

Pradosh Vrat is believed to be very auspicious, and this is celebrated in twilight. The followers also do not eat until the evenings and hold the Shiva Abhishekam in the evening.

There are numerous women who pray on this day wishing their husbands long life and well being. Even the Lord Vishnu is said to have worshipped Lord Shiva on a Pradosh evening.

4. July 23, 2025 – Masik Shivratri

It is the monthly Shivratri and is very potent when it occurs during the Shravan. This holy night is celebrated by fasting, keeping a vigil and reciting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.

People, in most of the towns, would light 108 diyas around the Shiva temple. It establishes a magical moment that is out of this world.

5. July 28, 2025 – Third Monday of Shravan (Somvar Vrat)

This Monday can be said to be the turning point. Believers tend to offer prayers and blessings to others. Giving money to the poor and giving food to cows is normal.

3rd Somvar: It is said that the third Somvar is where Lord Shiva begins showering you with answers. True or not, something peaceful always changes inside by this time.

6. July 29, 2025 – Nag Panchami

A day of snake worshiping- they are divine creatures that bear relationship to the ornament of Lord Shiva called Vasuki. Nag Devta prayers are done to safeguard that one is not attacked by invisible spirits or doshas to harm the family and children.

Spiritual: Such individuals suffering Rahu-Ketu dosh or problems in a birth chart offer special poojas or feed milk at ant hills or image of snakes.

7. August 4, 2025 – Fourth & Final Monday (Somvar Vrat)

The final Monday also has strong emotional and spiritual highlight. Devotees do everything that they can, some devotees walk kilometers to reach a particular temple some people do Nirjala fast (i.e. go without water) and some people are silent all through the day.

One of the families in Haridwar informed us that they plan months before this day as far as they know that is when Lord Shiva gives the most important attention.

8. August 6, 2025 – Shukla Pradosh Vrat

It is the last Pradosh Vrat of the month so it is perceived as the last ritual in your Shravan pilgrimage. Others do it again and present sesame seeds, honey and Panchamrit to the Shivling.

Why Is Shravan Maas So Special?

Shravan is not all about rituals, it is about giving your soul a new beginning. It is the month that even the air is sacred. All is the dampness of the soil, temple bells ring down tiny laneways and in practically every house, there is bhajan music.

It is believed among the devotees that each and every drop of water which is presented to Lord Shiva in the month of Shravan is of years of devotion. It is also said that this is the month when Goddess Parvati was united with Lord Shiva finally and thus it is a blessed month even to the couples.

Lots of followers consume satvik food such as fruits, milk, and products fabricated of sabudana or kuttu flour. Such spices as onion and garlic are avoided.

They should preferably finish all the four or five Mondays but in case they miss a Monday in between, seven people compensate it by fasting on some other auspicious Monday like Pradosh or Shivratri.
