Bhagwan Kaal Bhairav: Let’s first talk deeply about Kaal Bhairav! He is the one of avatars of Lord Shiva. As we know Lord Shiva has several forms and avatars, like Pashupatinath, Vishwanath, and others are very famous. Similarly, Lord Kaal Bhairav is the fearest form of Lord Shiva. This form of Lord Shiva was described by Adi Shankaracharya in the Kaalbhairav Ashtakam is shown to be black, with a garland of skulls and snake, he has three eyes and holding weapons of destruction in his four hands.  

Whereas in the Kaalbhairav Ashtakam Adi Shankaracharya praised Lord Kaalbhairav as the Lord of Kashi, he actually means the Agya Chakra – which signifies the awareness of the present moment. In that Adi Shankaracharya says that even the divine energies bow down at the feet of Kaalbhairav, yearning for that state of bliss and samadhi.  

 What is Kaalbhairav Chalisa?  

Bhairav Chalisa is a Hindu devotional hymn or prayer dedicated to Lord Bhairav, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The prayer comprises 40 verse or chaupais that recount the glory and divine attributes of Lord Bhairav.  

Chalisa is traditionally recited by devotees to seek protection, courage and spirituals growth. It is believed that reciting the Chalisa with devotion and sincerity which can help in eliminating fear, anger and negative energies and bestow blessings and grace on the devotees.  

In Chalisa’s first few verses of Bhairav Chalisa praised Lord Bhairav’s divine form and fierce nature, depicting him as the powerful protector against all evil forces. The following verses highlight Lord Bhairav’s importance, and significance in Hindu mythology which emphasizes his role as the deity who grants boons, destroys negativity, and brings peace and purity.  

The Chalisa has also recounted the various attributes of Lord Bhairav like sharp teeth, radiant eyes, and his weapons such as a trident, sword, and drum. The prayer shows the importance of devotion and faith in Lord Bhairav, which highlights the fact that those who worship him with pure heart and mind and blessed with divine grace and protection.

श्री गणपति, गुरु गौरिपद, प्रेम सहित धरी माथ।
चालीसा वंदन करौं, श्री शिव भैरवनाथ।।
श्री भैरव संकट हरण, मंगल करण कृपाल।
श्याम वरन विकराल वपु, लोचन लाल विशाल।।

जय जय श्री काली के लाला।
जयति जयति कशी कुतवाला।।

जयति ‘बटुक भैरव’ भयहारी।
जयति ‘काल भैरव’ बलकारी।।

जयति ‘नाथ भैरव’ विख्याता।
जयति ‘सर्व भैरव’ सुखदाता।।

भैरव रूप कियो शिव धारण।
भव के भार उतरन कारण।।

भैरव राव सुनी ह्वाई भय दूरी।
सब विधि होय कामना पूरी।।

शेष महेश आदि गुन गायो।
काशी कोतवाल कहलायो।।

जटा-जुट शिर चंद्र विराजत।
बाला, मुकुट, बिजयाथ साजत।।

कटी करधनी घुंघरू बाजत।
धर्षण करत सकल भय भजत।।

जीवन दान दास को दीन्हो।
कीन्हो कृपा नाथ तब चीन्हो।।

बसी रसना बनी सारद काली।
दीन्हो वर राख्यो मम लाली।।

धन्य धन्य भैरव भय भंजन।
जय मनरंजन खल दल भंजन।।

कर त्रिशूल डमरू शुची कोड़ा।
कृपा कटाक्ष सुयश नहीं थोड़ा।।

जो भैरव निर्भय गुन गावत।
अष्ट सिद्धि नवनिधि फल वावत।।

रूप विशाल कठिन दुःख मोचन।
क्रोध कराल लाल दुहूँ लोचन।।

अगणित भुत प्रेत संग दोलत।
बं बं बं शिव बं बं बोलत।।

रुद्रकाय काली के लाला।
महा कलाहुं के हो लाला।।

बटुक नाथ हो काल गंभीर।
श्वेत रक्त अरु श्याम शरीर।।

करत तिन्हुम रूप प्रकाशा।
भारत सुभक्तन कहं शुभ आशा।।

रत्न जडित कंचन सिंहासन।
व्यग्र चर्म शुची नर्म सुआनन।।

तुम्ही जाई काशिही जन ध्यावही।
विश्वनाथ कहं दर्शन पावही।।

जाया प्रभु संहारक सुनंद जाया।
जाया उन्नत हर उमानंद जय।।

भीम त्रिलोचन स्वान साथ जय।
बैजनाथ श्री जगतनाथ जय।।

महाभीम भीषण शरीर जय।
रुद्र त्रयम्बक धीर वीर जय।।

अश्वनाथ जय प्रेतनाथ जय।

त्रेशलेश भूतेश चंद्र जय।
क्रोध वत्स अमरेश नन्द जय।।

श्री वामन नकुलेश चंड जय।
क्रत्याऊ कीरति प्रचंड जय।।

रुद्र बटुक क्रोधेश काल धर।
चक्र तुंड दश पानिव्याल धर।।

करी मद पान शम्भू गुणगावत।
चौंसठ योगिनी संग नचावत।।

करत ड्रिप जन पर बहु ढंगा।
काशी कोतवाल अड़बंगा।।

देय काल भैरव जब सोता।
नसै पाप मोटा से मोटा।।

जानकर निर्मल होय शरीरा।

बाधा हरत करत शुभ काजा।।

Bhairav Chalisa’s significance!  

The Bhairav Chalisa is an important prayer of devotion to Lord Bhairav, who is a fierce form of Lord Shiva. Those people who followed the religion say this prayer to get protection ,courage and sprituals growth. It has huge role in Hindu mythology and culture. Devotees who worship the Bhairav Chalisa believed that it can take away their fear and anger and keep them safe from bad energies and evil forces. People believed that reciting the Chalisa with full of devotion and sincerely can brings blessings and grace to the person who does it and help them grow spritually.  

Devotees can believed that Lord Bhairav is the Guardian God of the eight direction and will keep his follower safe from all harm. The prayer talk about how important it is to love and believed in Lord Bhairav. It says that people who worship him with a pure heart and mind are blessed with divine grace and safety. The Bhairav Chalisa also talk about how important it is to pray and sprituals things on a regular basis in order to get the blessings of Lord Bhairav and to feel peace and harmony inside.  

How to recite Lord Bhairav Chalisa and when to worship Lord Bhairav!  

Practising Bhairav Chalisa involves reciting the prayer with devotion and sincerity. Here are some guidelines for performing the practice:  

  • Find a peaceful and clean place and choose a quiet corner or a sacred space where you can sit comfortably without any disturbance.  
  • Purify yourself: Take a bath or wash your band and feet before beginning the practice. This helps in purifying the mind and body.  
  • Set up an altar: Create a small altar or place a picture or idol of Lord Bhairav in front of you. You can decorate the altar with flowers, incense and other sacred item.  
  • Begin with a prayer: start by chanting a mantra or offering a prayer to Lord Bhairav . You can chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ or any mantra associated with Lord Shiva and Lord Bhairav.  
  • Recite the Bhairav Chalisa: Start reciting the 40 verse of Bhairav Chalisa. You can recite it aloud or silently. Depending on your preference and focus on the meaning and significance of each verses as you recite.  
  • Maintain a regular practice: for the good result make a habit of reciting the Bhairav Chalisa every day. Consistency and regularity are key to deepening your connection with Lord Bhairav and experiencing his blessings.  
  • Offer gratitude: after reciting the Chalisa you can offer flowers, incense or any other symbolic item to Lord Bhairav as a gesture of gratitude. Express your heartfelt prayer and seek his blessings for protection, courage and spiritual growth.  
  • Reflect and meditate: sit few min in quiet mood after the recitation, reflection on the divine attribute of Lord Bhairav and the meaning of the Chalisa. You can engage in meditation or silent contemplation to deep connection with Lord Bhairav.  

According to Astro experts say that the best time to worship Lord Bhairav is during the Rahu Kaal period on Sunday between 4.30 pm to 6 pm. 

Other Remedies to seek blessings of Lord Bhairav!  

Lord Bhairav vehicle is a dog . It is thus believed that feeding dogs , serving them is a great way to please Lord Bhairav. It is said if dogs having food you have the blessings of Lord Bhairav. Especially feeding dogs on the Thursday every week.

Lord Bhairav is believed to be the manifestation of Lord Shiva. Lord Bhairav holds immense significance among the Hindus. He is believed to be the manifestation of Lord Shiva himself. Lord Bhairav is called the ruler of time and death.
